"Only if we have flint anything else it'd be to hard to get a big enough spark." He puts his hand on the trunk of a tall palm tree some distence in the jungle.
"I think we found our firewood, the bark is dry." He slips his fingers into the plate-like bark and gives it a tug. They hear the wood strain and groan peeling away slowly, small string-like fibers perfect for tinder popping and bursting free from under the bark. He rips a large chunk of bark off before noticing the fibers.
"Oh, well this is much better, help me get a couple hand fulls.."He says pulling on another plate of bark but nodding to the thin layer of fibers on the palms trunk.

"Okay." She said, grabbing onto a loose looking piece of bark and tugging. It ripped off faster than she expected and she grabbed the fibers as they began to curl up toward the tree.
"Thats kinda fun." She said, grabbing onto another piece of bark and pulling. Her pile of tinder grew larger until it was taller than her hand was wide. She grinned, to be honest it was a stress reliever, plus all this work was keeping her mind and body occupied. It kept the realization of the gravity of their situation at bay when she worked.

Augen pondered for a moment. "Hmm... Ah yes! We should probably follow the shoreline for a couple of miles to check for people who still have not found conciousness," he said, snapping his finger and pointing in the direction he started to walk earlier. "After gathering any unconcious survivors we find into a small pile, we should take a look into the shallower parts of the forested areas... I'd imagine a lot of them would've thought to look for unsalted water first thing... Although, do you think that would be tactical?" He turned around for an answer, his face showing a bit of uncertainty torwards his own plan.

Judus collects his own pile of fibers, clutching it tight in his hand, he gathered the pulled bark. With both there arms full of tinder and dried bark they return to camp. Digging a small pit and arranging the tinder atop on of the sections of bark. Tugging on a chain he had around his neck he pulls two dogtags from unde his shirt one with a embossed skull and the other was blank. He taps the steal dogtag into the bark with another stick making a endention to hold th embers. He pulls the laces from one of his shoes and makes a bow using another stick and another peice of bark he begens pulling the bow trying to make a fire.
"God i hope this works...."He says as sweat begins to form on his brow.

"... are you a boyscout or something?" She asked, watching him work at starting a fire.
She sat/fell down next to him with a small grunt. She stretched out her legs, careful to avoid their fire pit. "I hope it works too." Ricki said "But it looks like you know what your doing." She couldn't do much to help, so she watched and tried not to fidget.

He sighs as the smoke whisps up then dies.
"No...i ran away from home, and in the Arizona desert its pretty mch hell. So before I left i bought all these survival guides, most of them where old and didn't realy give much information, anything credible anyway." He starts wroking at the bow again.
"Spent a little over a week out there before the locals found me. I forgot to cover the smoke from my fire and they followed it, called the cops, and i was hauled back home, then to a reformatory school, then to another, and another, and so on and so forth. I was suposed to be going to a school down in Brazil, near Peru, my Aunt and Her newest escapade would make sure i didn't try anything but it looks like i won't have to worry about them for a while...." He grunts feeling the spinning stick stike his knuckle as he pushed the bow to far. "I'm sorry i'm rambling.
Smoke rises from the tinder but to small to signal a fire dwelling within.

"Nah, its okay." She said watching the whisps smoke.
"If it makes you feel any better I should be in Venezuela right now..." She looked away from him, down at her toes. "I was gonna spend the year there, with my dad." Her voice cracked and her eyes started to water. "I'm sure he thinks I'm dead by now." She said taking a deep breath.
"And maybe we should look for something else to start a fire with." She said.

The whisps of smoke die again and he drops the bow, stick and bark beside the small fire pit. He fices a few tired breaths before nodding.
"Last time i had a lighter, it made this so much easier...." He groans standing a small bit of sand getting kicked into the pit uncovering some of the tinder. As her walks over to his hoodie to check how dry it was small puffs of smoke drift from the tinder and to familiar orange glow lights the insides of the clump of wood.
He touches his hoodie and sighs feeling it still a little damp.

She jumped at the sight of sparks, quickly crawling over to crouch next to them. Carefully she prodded the orange glow with wood hoping it would catch. The wood started to smoke.
"Hey Jude..." She said, before she blew on the growing orange glow. Finally the spark caught and the dry wood caught fire.

"hhhmmm?..."Judus says turning a little, seeing the smoke he rushes over, making sure to slow down before getting to close to avoid kicking the fire out.
"It started? .....wow i thought it was dead..." Judus turns to grab some more wood. "we're gonna need more wood...."He says looking at the three twings they had as firewood.

"No sh*t." She said trying to keep the little flame that they had alive.
"Wheres all that bark?" She asked, lighting a few of the twigs.

He hands her the few peices of bark he haddn't used to start the fire. It wasn't much, they'd used all the good wood to build their shelter, and without any form of cutting tool to get stronger and greener wood that's where it would stay.
"He goes and get s the stick he'd used to dry his hoodie, and instead sets his hoodie on the joint of their lean-to shelter. He breaks the sizable stick in two and hands the peaces to her, all and all they could keep the fire going for two maybe three hours, four if they kept it at a low burn.
"Shelter, fire, now all we're missing is food and a drinkable sorce of water, and without something to hold water in we can't boil the salt out of it." He says crouching beside her at the fire.

"Or... we could collect evaporated water." She suggested looking over at him with a quizzical expression.
"You didn't know that?" She asked with a wide grin. She looked at the shelter they had built so far. It was visible from the beach and she assumed they would be able to find their way back fairly easily as long as they didn't stray to far.

"No, i never had to, i boiled my water to avoid getting any parasites...the again my nature experiance was in the desert so its a little different."
He looks at the fire it was small and yet somehow it managed to raise his spirits.
"But it's your plan, how do we go about evaporating water to drink?" He asks taking off his shoes and socks, setting them by the fire to get completly dry and warm.

Arturo shakes his head at his companion. He was second guessing his decisions. On the ocean that was deadly, and Arturo was sure that on an abandoned island it could be just as dangerous. He looks down the shoreline and takes note of the endless curve. Nothing caught the eye really, just sand, ocean, and jungle.
"My friend you are over thinking!" Arturo states with a heavy accent. "I doubt someone straight out of a crash would worry too much about something like water. They would wander in a daze, or try to look for others."
Arturo pats Augens shoulder in a friendly gesture. Giving him a warm smile and a confident look, he slowly begins to march down the beach.
"Determination and a will to survive shall win the day!" Arturo shouts to no one in particular.
