HISTORY
During the third, and final great war the earth went silent under the blinding illuminations of atomic and nuclear weaponry. The skys became perminantly shrouded with thick clouds and the concept of sunlight became a myth to all but those able to travel high enough. Radiation forced a evolutionary step forward deep within the genes of man, dormant until it was needed.
What was this step you might ask? The ability to transfer neural energy, all of it, memories, feelings, thoughts into a conductive material. While this was happening this material would pull in and meld with part around it to form a Animus, which resembled something like this.
The Animus took control over conductive substances through the small wires from around its central 'eye', these where also used to walk when they didn't have control of their constructed bodies known as 'Constructs' (go figure), which can take any shape, as long as its a machine and has a place where they can be plugged into it. The Animus where frowned apon and veiwed as, inhuman, and thusly shunned. Then the full effects of the war set in, red snow fell from the skys and disease spread far and wide forcing many into their Animus. As the number of Animus grew, people began using them for work, they didn't need to eat anything besides energy to keep the Animus alive, and their Contrusts where repairable so they wouldn't loose a worker from a minor accedent.
The population dwindled until five major cites remained. Each one practicaly a country unto itself they had grown so massive.
Big Town - This is your sterotypical make or break city, you come here to make it big you wish you'd seen better times. All the newest devices and gadgets come from Big Town. The Mayor, Ardecious Savantez is a well dressed, filthy rich man and not affraid to throw his weight around, but there is something deeper to him...perhaps something connected the the string of Animus disapearances in Big Town.
Metro - A large waterfront city, nothing much about Metro except all of the water, air, and land craft are designed and manufactured there and then shipped out. For being a waterfront they're most sought after resource and bounty from the water itself.
Islabel - A singal city alone on a content sized island, three major railways connect it to other land bodies. With so much space Islabel has become the worlds largest zoo and ranch, glass dome habitats varry from arctic tundra to blazing desert and keep alive those animals species not wiped out by the war, man inclueded. This is also the only city to export lumber.
Seibre - A city known for the largest casting and mining facilities left standing. Iron, steel, all heavy metals come from here, or to here to be processed and redistributed. The freezing temperatures makes the large heat blarring forges and factories a welcome adornment.
Atlantis - A city hidden under the oceans, large domes and other structures built to withstand the extream pressure of the waters above. They export purified water to the other four cities. Unlike the other cities which use reactors, and giant furnaces for power Atlantis draws its power from thermal vents.
Other:
Badlands - Not a city but the apocolptic wastelands that set between the country/cities. People have been rumored living in the badlands but it's a common beleif that no living thing other than a Animus could survive out there. The Badlands are divided and cut into sectors, large tracks of railroad and subway tunnels span them and connect the five cities for trade and transportation.
Skys - The skys should be counted as a city to themselves and with their own breed of people. Cogs are what the sailors of the skys are refered to, their airship vessles touch down in a city every now and again. These ships carried cargo, people, and even solar energy storage, or other storage containers in large zeplin like aircraft. With business they are compeditors, and as such private groups hire themselves out to businesses to interupts rivals affairs in the air, Pirates as their called. All Cogs take a regular dose of radiation reducers seeing as the lingering radiation from the war is thicker the higher up you go.
Technology - The current tech-level is comparable to our own simply steampunk. Machines, circutry, aircraft, 16-bit computers, solar, and nulcear batteries, telephones still wired.
Aminus - The Animus lead the best lives they can, they hold jobs, own houses and property, and even raise families. This is done in a odd manner in which two Animus come together build a collection of energy between them and form a young Animus which is in fact a entirly new being and not just a copy of it's mother or father, so in other words they can have kids.
Cyborg - There are certain people that for whatever reason have been augmented with steampunk technology. They require energy containers to power their artaficial parts like the Animus do to eat, or they have a small energy generating device simular to a small steam engine, carryable of corse.
Groups:
Sons of Savery - These are a particular technology worshiping religion that the mayor of Big Town himself happens to be a part of. Their recognizable are the jagged double 's' resembling the nazi lightning bolts to some degree. Thusly they've become a mayor part of the big towns higher up police and military force. They also patrol the area's around big town to protect it's out regions from raiders.
Dusters - This is a group of badland raiders, well not particularly raider. They take on the cowboy/outlaw stereotype which earned them their names because their memebers where long duster coats. They are known to travel in 'packs' of five to nine and on steam powered motocycle vehicles. While being considered criminals they maintain a code of honor anongst their ranks and tend not to attack unprovoked.
Junkers - The general term used to define the countless small raider groups that terrorize the badlands.
Ronin - Taking their name from that of wandering feudal japanese warriors you'd think it was just to look cool. No these are actual warriors from the eastern islands. Their people have once again revered to their feudal lifestyle, those that didn't move to the big cities. These are simply bands of warriors that try to live in the badlands and don't realy care what they have to do to survive.
Church of Tesla - Another technology worshiping religion. This group has the primary focus of transfering their physical form to energy and are renown mentalists (people that beleive they can unlock certain regioins of the brain giving precognition, telekenisis, and even telepathy) They praise the animus as true beings of energy and therefor welcome them with open arms. It's also rumored that the Church of Tesla has spend years developing their energy weapons and technology which they gaurd heavily and refuse to share it with the outside world.
INTRO
"Welcome to Big Town, No clue how you got here, or why you're here. Probably the same as everyone else. First bit of advice, don't get in to much of a hurry, if you're gonna make it around here it'll come wether your rush it or not, if you don't make the best of it, and if you do look your old pal Troy up, okay?
Anyways, second bit, people....they might not take to kind to ya around here. Don't ask why, people around here.....they's just like that. Not to mention the major....he's been a little edgy and a lot of realy good clankers (Animus), that I know personaly have been either dissapearing or getting the bad word spread about them and arrested so watch your back kid. Anyway it was nice seeing you, maybe I'll catch you later, coffee or something. "
You may either start as a Animus, a human, or a Cyborg, Your construct, or artaficial parts may be to your likeing (keep its simple a construct with a gun for a arm and a flamethrower leg would get scrapped before you got outside his house.)
