"Akiva..."Hazen says in a low tone so only she could hear. "I...I have something to confess...."
There was a pause. "If...no...when the time comes for confruntation...I....I can't take the life of no other of my fellow man....be them evil or no I spiritualy have no right to take them from this world...."He says almost sounding ashamed.

She touched his arm. "You say that like it's a bad thing..." She whispered back, flashing him a broken smile. She focused her gaze down on the ground but she kept her hand on his arm. "I'll protect you." She promised and although it might have seemed like she was trying to lighten the darkening atmosphere, she meant it.
Akiva shivered, chills running up and down her spine. They entered the mill and all was dark, they heard the scratch of a match being lit and curtains being drawn. Suddenly the darkness was illuminated by a lamp, coming from a larger work room.
"Welcome."
---
"There is an alternative you know." An old widowed maid said, her gentle eyes watching the tender scene. "You could run." And then she disappeared again, to find others to share this idea with. Some young servants would accept it and others would call her traitor but the old maid had nothing to loose and she would keep speaking her mind until the day her voice left her.

"I'm glad you understand...I only hope the rest of our company will be as open as you."He whispers to her before they enter the mill.

Grey's mother started to whisper in her ear but she Grey got up in a defiant pose.
"No. No mother I must accept this fate." Grey said silently wishing she could slap the old woman.
Her feet dragged as she started to pack her things. She silently cried in the shadows.

"Please make yourself at home." The owner of the mysterious deep voice came into view. He was a large man, tall and bulky with stubble gracing his chin and bags under his eyes. His clothing was unimpressive, simple, clean but plain. He was unarmed but the two men who flanked him most certainly were not.
The doors were bolted shut but Izumi seemed relatively unaffected. So Akiva tried not to be nervous but when the heavy locks clicked shut and it felt like the gears were churning in her stomach.
They were invited to sit on cushions around a lamp.
"Sorry about the dim lighting." He apologized, sitting opposite the large group.
"That's alright." Izumi said sitting down after shaking his hand.
He scanned the room, counting heads. "There's more of you than you said there would be." He noticed.
Akiva blushed and looked down at her hands. "Yes, we picked up a couple of refugees yesterday. The province of Lein was razed by Imperial solders." Izumi explained.
The mans face fell. "I'm sorry to hear that." He said solemnly.
"Now maybe you can see why this meeting was so imperative." She said. "We need to build a stronger force William and we need to build it together. We must be able to protect ourselves and the people, we need to be united in our rebellion."
"Pretty words Izumi but we have problems of our own." William said, his expression changing from solemn to skeptic. Such talk, even between rebels was taboo. A larger group meant a more strength but it also meant more attention and compared to any of the royal armies their force was a minor irritation at best.
"Just think of how much worse those problems will be when they come to this little village next." She said, her tepid tone only barely covering the bite of her words.
-----
As the messenger prepared to depart from the Notable's castle he tightened his cloak and jumped onto his horse. He rode off into the forest, neither the time nor the darkness bothered him. The sky was smooth and calm, and the forest teemed with the sounds of nocturnal animals and insects. There was one creature, in that same forest, that did not make any noise at all. In fact it was a creature was waiting for something - perhaps the rest of its pack. It bared its fangs and crept toward the road spooking the horse as it emitted a low hiss.
The messenger struggled to keep on his horse. "Easy. Hooo." He muttered in the darkness. But his mare would not settle. She kept pacing and whinnying, her large wild eyes searching for the threat.
There was more hissing and clicking as its pack returned the lone creatures call. The messenger began to feel uneasy. He pushed his horse to gallop but the creatures gave chase.
His cries went unheard. No part of his body would be found.

"I studied breifly anatomy of animals and man and I noticed a simple fact in natures glorious design."Hazen says slowly, as if to test the waters of conversation before he spoke. "The only beings alive that spread their brain so thin through their bodies, like from what i've seen and heard is much the same as your current system, are worms and the smaller vermin there in the dirt. Even the lowly roach has a single mind, a single set that guides it."
He shifts his weight uncomfortably. "I'm only offering my oppinion, and help as a educated man of the cloth. And, beleive me I bring no offense in saying this, the inner workings of your organization does need a reform.

She looked at him in amazement, Akiva was impressed. 'He must have a lot of guts' she thought.
William turned to the monk in surprise. "What's your name young man?" He asked, his eyebrows furrowed. "And what do you know of reform?" He did not sound hostile but his body language hinted at his skepticism.

"As a holyman, I know much. See we reform our very spiritual being to maintain balance till accencion" He says with the same low tone. "And I was simply stating my observation, I value life, yours, your followers.... my critisims is simply to preserve that prescious resource." Hazen clears his throught after this part.

Akiva grinned to herself.
"I see. Well, you have both made good arguments but... we just can't afford to weigh ourselves down with the burden of alliance. Your cause is noble, its filled with good intentions but the people of this village need us. There are beasts in this forest that terrorize the village. The task of protecting these people alone strains our group enough, we cannot take on any more fighting." He said.
"Please, before you make up your mind realize that an alliance works to the benefit of both groups. We could help you. We would be more than willing." Izumi replied.
He inhaled deeply. "You don't know what your up against." William said looking at the all faces in the room.
"What do you mean?" Akiva asked, leaning forward. ----
Inside the Notables castle the clock struck 11. It was getting late.

Hazen listened though it didn't quite seem he was to intent on what this man had to say.

Grey's face grew hot with tears as she packed her things. She had paid no heed to what the old lady said. Suddenly she felt her mothers hand on her shoulder. A hand that was calloused but radiated a soft warmth only Grey could feel.
"Go to sleep Grey." She whispered.
She took a glance aorund the room to see all the other servants sleeping or at least in bed. to not make her mother sad or angry, Grey obeyed.
But she didn't sleep at all. In fact in her mind she bagan picking out the perfect words for a goodbye letter to her mother. The old woman's words began to sink in. And instead of living in the present as she always had; Grey finally began to think of the future.
A few hours before sunrise Grey scribbled down a note:
Mom, I decided last night that I am oging to run away and not go to the castle. I guess I was stupid and ignored the danger that could have lied ahead of me if I had chosen that path. I don't know if I'm worrying you more or less by chosing a life on my own but I guess it's not going to matter once I leave.
I love you so much and I know simply trying to fend for myself in a cold world is going to be hard but it doesn't compare to leaving you.
Mom, know that I love you and I really do hate to leave you. I know someday our paths will meet again and I will think of you every day untill that time comes.
Love your daughter Grey.
A teardrop stained the bottom of the note smudgeing Grey. She sealed the letter with a kiss, took her bags, and ran off in the lingering darkness. If she ran she would be able to flee her town before sunrise.

(Alright, things are moving kinda slow so I'm going to be moving the story along in this post. ) As William began to explain the horrors that they protected the village from. They didn't know where they came from, nor what they were. They called them Cirapryn. Carnivores, fast, deadly. From what information they had gathered they had managed to keep them out of the town most nights. It cost them though. They usually had to kill a cow or a goat or a couple chickens out in the forest and spread the blood around to keep them away which was seriously hurting the people of the town. They couldn't afford to sacrifice all these animals so most nights they had to guard the town themselves. Men had gone missing and their 'generous' ruler would not pay them for their service or offer any other compensation, instead the Notable sat up in his castle and promised not to tell the Emperor. "I could not drag you into this." He said shaking his head. "Our situation is complicated and our relationship with the notable is precarious to say the least." "Well then..." Izumi said. The door creaked open and a boy stepped through. He pulled his had off his head. "I... I just... tonight a man stopped by the castle. I took his horse to the stables and... well my brother was inside and he told me I should tell you what he heard..." He said nervously. He wrung the hat in his hands, shifting from foot to foot. "Go ahead young one." He said encouraging him to speak. "What is it?" "There are... solders coming in the morning..." Akiva felt like her heart had dropped into her stomach. Everyone in the room was still. "Do you know anything else?" He asked. "No... just... what he told me... well, he said that they were going to take away the women." "Just the women?" He asked. "Y-yes..." After the boy had left William leaned against the wall his head in his hands. "damn it." "Maybe now you'll let us help." Akiva said.

Hazen looked to the ground, and a small sigh escapes his lips. A low mutter drones from his mouth, a prayer. He clasps his hands before him, his right hand palm open and facing upward and the other a close fist palm down apon the other.
